Photography

If you are doing any kind of photography in school, below you will find some tips for producing powerful photos.

Composition - how you choose to frame your picture will tell a story.

Poor composition makes for unsatisfactory viewing and makes the viewer feel that something is wrong in the picture.

Strong composition has exactly the opposite effect - the viewer instantly understands the story being told, and feels like the photographer has "nailed it".

Here are some links to help you with photograph composition:

Rule of Thirds - one of the most important concepts in creating powerful photography

Use of Shadows

Horizon - where you place the horizon in your photo changes the effect of your photo dramatically

Rack Focus - deciding whether to have the object(s) in the foreground or background as your focus

Internet Safety

Welcome back, everyone!

As we start a new year, it's important that students are reminded of internet safety, since most of them access the internet many times daily.

We will be discussing the issues around internet safety in tech classes at the start of the year, and regularly throughout.

Here is a powerful video about the importance of internet safety and online privacy.

Guitar - Gr. 5/6

To learn to play songs on the guitar when you are just beginning, one of the best things to do is to google something like "easy guitar songs", "beginner guitar songs" or "3 chord guitar songs".

Here are some resources to use as well:

Ultimate Guitar - enormous database of lyrics and chords of almost any song - be sure to pick the version that uses CHORDS, not TAB, and has a good **** rating with a high number.

Online guitar tuner - Use this online guitar tuner to tune up at home.

Interactive Fretboard - online fretboard to explore and learn chords. Good for both beginner and more experienced players.

Chord-C - excellent site that shows you different ways to play the same chord (this is called chord voicings). More advanced students can use this site to challenge themselves by learning different chord voicings.

E-Chords - another good database for song lyrics and chords.

Online Guitar Fretboard - notes ring out so you can hear multiple notes playing together. Good for studying chord formations and notes on the fretboard.

How To Hold A Guitar Pick - start out with good habits.
